Attack the Block review
Attack the block is a very lighthearted film and i am not to sure which genre this film is in as the supposedly scary parts are more cringy than frightning and the comedy parts are not very funny. I would sum it up as amix of horror, comedy, action and sci-fi. The film is based on a group of London teenagers who grew up on a rough estate having to deal with an alien invasion that is taking place.
I think the concept of the film is ok and is different to other alien and sci-fi movies as them sort of films are normally set in much serious surroundings than a block of flats in London. This in a way takes away the seriousness of the film and has you wondering before the film starts whether this is a horror or a comedy spoof.
Visually for a low budget film i think this is a good effort as the monsters are visually nice to look at but they dont really scare me or make me jump at any moment in the film. They also make weird noises which is funny rather than scary. The soundtrack is one of the better parts of this film as it goes well with the theme of the movie as the music is more update and the sort of music teenagers would listen to.
The performances of the actors is good for saying it is their first acting job and they play the roles of 'chavs' really well i also think that Nick Frost adds more experience to the cast and he plays an ok part but is not one of his best.
Overall i think attack the block was a poor film but it had some exciting moments but as an overall film i would not reccomend it or watch it again as i did not find it amusing or scary.
